“Beyond Cancer”, the first annual juried competition presented by Pacific Art League & The Canary Foundation, is an exhibition showcasing works of art from individuals whose lives have been affected by cancer — either their own experience or someone close to them. Each artist has a powerful and compelling story to tell.

The seven artists chosen for the SVAM exhibit exemplify the drive to create expressive and purposeful art through use of imagery, color and texture. Each artist transformed their broad ranging emotions into works that touch our souls on a deep and visceral level.

The beauty and power of the imagery in these works — often derived through pain, suffering and adversity — transcends the limits of language and each piece reaches out to connect the viewer with the artist's personal story; stories that unite us all and evoke heartfelt compassion.
